Not officially, but some some do use the Baie Rouge beach in the nude. During the week, there will be more naturists then there are on the weekends. Orient beach at Club Orient is the only legal nude beach on SXM. But there are many beaches where naturists do go nude. Topless is ok at any french beach on SXM.

At the Sunset Bar and Grill in Maho, topless women could drink free. Don't know it that is still the rule as I haven't been in several years. If we can be topless in a restaurant, I would think the same would apply at the beaches.

Free drinks for topless woman at Sunset Beach Bar was discussed recently on Facebook. One person said they asked a male bartender one day, and he said no. Several women chimed in and said they in fact had recently got free drinks from a female bartender, so who knows? My understanding is topless is okay on all the Dutch and French beaches, with nudity accepted at Cupecoy, and of course several french beaches.

For a number of years, the Sunset BB had an internet camera behind the bar. I doubt the women sitting topless at the bar knew their faces and bare breasts were being broadcast world wide. Would be extremely rare that anyone back home they knew would see them, but still . . . . A safer option would be one of the tables to the side of the camera. We haven't been since about 2013, so I don't know if the camera is still there or not.
One night years ago, maybe 2004, we were there and a woman from Club O was dancing naked. I imagine she was drinking doubly free. She appeared to be a bit under the influence.

I'm only speaking as to official legality. Topless is not legal on the Dutch side. However, we all know that it is ok. I mean I have never heard of anyone being ticketed on the Dutch side for being topless. As far as sunset, I think things changed with the new ownership. That is not to say that there may be a bar tender or two that will accommodate topless women.
On the french side, however, outside of Club O beach, one could be ticketed for complete nudity.

I understand that times have changed at OB north of Club O but has anyone ever been ticketed there for being nude? Warnings maybe, e.g. around the time that the sign by Pedro's was erected, but I have never heard of anyone being ticketed, at least since 2000 or so when I started following the forums, and traveling to OB. Just curious.

I heard of someone being ticketed back when the crackdown first started. There was a discussion about it on this board. That's when I decided to always wear something on my bottom half when off the Club O beach. May be only a transparent WW string or a pareo that covers nothing when the wind blows (and the wind always blows), but at least to wear something.
We have only seen the Gendarmes at Pedro's (when there was a Pedro's) once or twice in the mornings, and nowhere else on the beach. If I should have seen one, I could always hold my pareo down in the front long enough to get past them. I think bare butts are probably OK. I mean no one gets in trouble for wearing a WW string on the main part of the beach.

I wasn't there in the good ol days, but pre Irma, 16/17 , there was what i consider to be a lot of nude and topless walkers in the early am. Flash to last April, we encountered maybe 5 or 6 on the whole beach walk, and all of them where male. We do get out very early, like 6 and are done by 7 to 7:30, so maybe more get out later.

A year or so before Irma, Club O was asking people to not walk nude on the main part of the beach. There was concern that the government might close down the nude use of Club O portion of the beach. There was a discussion about it on this board.
After the crackdown, I think the earliest the Gendarmes were spotted at Pedro's was 8:30 to 9:00. That seemed to be target time to stop the nude use. Probably set up at Pedro's to stop the walkers leaving Club O after that time. Now that Club O has been destroyed, they probably see the problem as having resolved itself. For me, there has been no nude use, even early in the mornings, since the crackdown.
