And another friend reporting on a problem at Haulover Beach (north of Miami Beach):

I just want to give a heads up to anyone coming down for a Haulover visit. Yesterday afternoon our friend's (Irene) car was broken into and her wallet was stolen from her trunk. Chase Bank called her cell phone while we were sitting on the beach, to ask her if she had used her credit card at 3 different gas stations within the past hour. When she quickly left the beach to check the car, she found that the thieves had used a tool to pop open the driver's side window, which didn't shatter the window. They then used the lever to open the trunk. DO NOT leave any valuables in your car or trunk if you're coming down for a visit. What a bummer....

we will be visiting in April but taking the bus. Is it ok to leave our cash in a backpack by our blanket while we go for a walk or swim?

99% sure you'll be OK but no harm in getting friendly with a neighbor and asking them to keep an eye on your stuff.

I know they sell beer and maybe wine but no mixed drinks, at least it was that way 3 yrs ago.
