See the attached link for the recent sad and surprising news :

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/the_americas/st-martin-reports-fatal-shark-attack-1st-in-recent-history/2020/12/10/95948c40-3b36-11eb-aad9-8959227280c4_story.html

First fatal shark attack in SXM in many many years. Last reported attack 2005 and non-fatal (as far as I have been able to find out. Very sad news and my deepest sympathies for the woman and her loved ones.

Thanks for the information. When you learn more, please update us.

Most everyone I talked to on the beach would say, "There are no sharks in Orient Bay." Hah, I knew better, and now, unfortunately, so does everyone else.

Also, we are going next week for 16 days so I'll send a "boots on the ground report" when I get there.

Also, Christa, I saw on another thread that you are giving up on SXM now that Club O is no more. Are you sure, it's still one of the best nude beaches in the world and there are other great options for nude accommodations. Thankfully the beach and sea are still as beautiful as ever and Cedrick and the crew are keeping things up and running (minus the accommodations). Don't give up! It's still GREAT!!

We were there is 2018 and stayed in a condo just across the road from the Village. We went to Club O Beach each day. Had a great time, but not as good as Club O pre Irma.

The fiasco with Club O is what broke the straw, or maybe it was the Camel that was broken, but we are disgusted with it. Couple that with the fact that I have had three surgeries to remove skin cancer since 2018, and it is just more than we want to deal with.

If Club O were still there, we would go back. If I hadn't had skin cancer in three different places, we would go back and try to stay out of the sun. But add those two together, and our trips to the Island are over. It was a good run of 16 years, but all things must pass. Unfortunately, St. Martin has passed for us.

Good Evening, Looking forward to your report. Really miss those vacations in SXM, Perhaps your advice and observations will make them a possibility for NYE 2021
