Progress on Orient

Looks like at long last there may soon be some new "carbets" or beach restaurants on Orient

"Ready for the tourist season." I hope so. I read on another forum that Chez Leandra & Orange Fever are expected to be the first to be ready. Two of our favs. Now, it would really be nice if one or more have dinner. We'll be there 12/1 - 12/15.

I'm not interested in any more beach restaurants, especially ones that aren't open for dinner. I'm interested in Club O. Or, I should say I was interested. I have now given up on it and have lost interest in the Island.

We're giving the island another try in December, 10 days divided among Club Fantastico, Jardin D'O and Adam and Eve. Will let you know how well they can replace our Club O!

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you Christa. After reading, on other travel blogs, about the lack of rebuilding along with the increased crime rate, we too have become less interested in the island.

If the people of the island aren't assisted with rebuilding in order to grow the economy and cannot find work, then they will resort to whatever they need to to feed their family. Who else are good targets but the American and other "wealthy" tourists? Add to this the lack of cooperation of the owners of Club O to settle their differences and the tourists will take their money elsewhere. My wife and I have decided to save the costs of airfares and condo rentals and put that in the bank for a future purchase an RV lot and and RV at a nearby nudist resort so we can go whenever we want in under 2 hours.

The island is suffering because of the ineptness and corruption of their governments. It's a shame because even though we never experienced staying at Club O, we were looking forward to a stay there. Had they started to rebuild and show their intent to serve their customers, we would definitely book a stay there. Their lack of any movement after >2 years has made us believe that the resort is DOA.

Hey Biturbo, we're arriving 12/15. I don't have my hopes up for much more to be ready. But we're happy with perch lite and Cedrick. We love Orange Fever--it'd be great if they are open.

You're arriving just as we're leaving. Yes, we loved Orange Fever - especially their pizzas. We're really looking forward to vacation this year.

I'm kind of sad that the island has lost favor with some folks that used to love it. The Government's response has been weak with no urgency for the carbets operators or anyone else for that matter. The Club O situation is frustrating knowing whats behind it all. With all that said, my wife asked if i would continue to go to SXM with Club O not there, and my answer was yes. At this point there is still plenty i have not seen or done. Some things i have done i still want to do again. Perch and the beach are still special, even though its different. Every year we meet new people and have a great time, I'm not sure what the crime level is at, but if that gets to a bad enough state that could be a game changer. For now, i hope Chez Leandra & Orange Fever are open by April! Can't wait!

My wife is dying to do the zip line this trip and we'll probably do some sort of around the island cruise. We also plan to do this stuff but never seem to leave Club O beach.smile

Even though we can no longer stay at Club O, we still had a great time this year and plan to return next year. Still the most tranquil beach experience ever...and we live by the ocean. Can't be duplicated.

Just saw on facebook that Orange Fever is open--the bar portion anyway. Luc says the kitchen could open in early Dec.

I will never give up hope that Club O will be back. Way too many good times to toss. In the mean time we will return in May and stay at a Villa on Orient.
carib cheers,

Nice. We'll be there in May. We'll finally experience the beach ball races that I've been reading about for years!

I'm jealous, it sounds like a lot of fun! We will just miss it being there in April.
