Any news on Esmeralda Resort as to when to expect re-opening?

Work is being done on the Es. The villa closest to the beach is fully restored and is operational. Not sure about the others.

Appears that the damage was due to the wind and not the water. The sea wall probably helped a great deal.

Christa, Is there any news of how the Alamanda is doing with their cleanup?

Alamanda was looking good while we were there. Most of the damage appears to have been repaired. The last word I got was that they would reopen in October. They are open for breakfast now, and a bicycle rental company is working out of there.

We would like to visit Orient Beach for week in August. Will it be good? Is it safe? Are places open? What about Grand Case, are the restaurants open there? What is it like now?

We were there in June, and it was good. As far as safety, if you stay in a well lighted area where there are other people, it should be plenty safe. Yes, places are open and the restaurants in Grand Case are open, as are the restaurants in the Village.

You ask what is it like? There is a lot of construction and rebuilding along most of the beach, Club O excluded. Past Esmeralda there is nothing being done that we saw. The construction workers have come in from many different countries. We heard Spanish, English, French, German and Dutch being spoken by the workers. A crew of 5 or 6 may consist of workers from different countries.

Not much traffic on the beach until one gets to Club O's beach, and it has plenty of traffic. Cedric and the guys are doing a good job with the chairs and umbrellas and keeping the beach clean.

At night there isn't much business in the restaurants. Most of the people there now are the French expatriots. They seem to prefer the smaller cafes in the Plaza across the street from the Village where they gather to drink wine, talk and smoke cigarettes, lots of cigarettes. Although there was usually a gathering at one of the restaurants in the Village. The bocce ball court has been moved. It is now behind the restaurants in the Village. Didn't see anyone playing while we were there. Maybe they couldn't find it as it is off the beaten path, unlike where it was before.
