Beach update
October 06 2016 08:12

Greetings all.

Final countdown is on as we head back to our favorite place and arrive on 27 October.
Seen several pictures posted on other sites where the beach looks reduced and fewer chairs put out.
Any updates from those there or those in the know on the beach status including seaweed, beach, chairs, bars, restaurants, etc?

Thanks
T

Club O has been closed for a few weeks, so the webcam doesn't show much activity.

Water has been great, no seaweed/sargassum, a little cloudy from time to time. See other response on beach condition. Beach area in front of the new places is fairly full/wide. A challenge to walk in water in front of Pedro's tho. Steps on either side of Pedro's have been installed for us physically challenged types.

Today orient was suffering from abnormally high tides and full moon. To complicate things, there was also an on shore wind. In front of the Perch, no room for chairs and where there was room, only one row. A cliff developed and the feet end of the chairs were hanging off the cliff. It was so bad, chairs were set up on the volleyball court. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

To confirm beachbum. Left the Club O beach around 2:30. From the Pedro's area to well past the Perch just one row of chairs. Even the Pedro's chairs were pushed back and fewer set up. The higher wave wash was coming right up to steps of Perch. South of Perch some of the chairs were backed up to the fence. Gonna be interesting on Sat. when the Puerto Rico ship is in and all the black-sock and tennis shoe crowd want to do the perp walk, gonna have to shuffle in the wave wash for quite a ways. There were also chairs set up in the volleyball area when we left. There was more erosion in the area around chalet's 47 - 49/50 with some of the rope posts washed out. The last remaining palm tree is about 50% undercut. Seaweed is churned up but but not bad, water of course was quite cloudy.
There has been a heavy wave formation since at least mid-day the 17th which we can see breaking over the reef going into Corlita bay, north end of Oyster Pond area. Little early and still dark out but what I can see looks to be perhaps close to same. There is a tropical depression hanging north of Puerto Rico with bands extending this way. May be the cause of the heavier than normal wave formation. From looks of things this may be a Marigot market - Maho/Karakter lunch - Phillipsburg shopping day today.

After that one strange high tide beach day, the water cleared back up and the beach returned. We have had great weather all week. Looking forward to another great week before we have to go home next Sunday.

We just returned and the beach at Club O is very narrow near the Perch as others have said. I paced off 21 feet from the waters edge and the Perch steps. There is only room for one row of chairs in this area, with little room to walk behind the chairs and in the front without getting your feet wet. Approximately half way down from the Perch to Papaguyo, the beach is wider and there were three rows of chairs out. As you approach Papaguyo the beach narrows quickly. Each day at happy hour, those standing towards the end of the line were having the water cool off their feet. Water was very, very clear, more so than other years.

There last month on a cruise day and beach remains pretty much as described in NJHarry's . Willi said that it seemed to not be rebuilding like it normally does
