i spoke to an owner last year and he informed me that the issues are with the courts and even the owners cant agree on some things. He did not give much hope. So i asked him, " why dont the owners take their insurance elsewhere like another island with a major airport". He said i suggested that and the other owners would have no part of it. So sad.

After a year passed with no sign of rebuilding, I realized Club O, as we knew it, was probably a thing of the past. I mean they hadn't even started clearing the rubble. And here we are almost 7 years post Irma, and it still looks the same as it did the day after Irma rolled through. Well, not quite the same as the rubble is getting overgrown, the way it was before Club O.
If no progress after seven years, then when?
I'm taking my marbles (and my sunblock) elsewhere. Club O is a very fond memory, but growing fainter as the years pass us by.

What we did one year was to stay in an apartment in the Plaza (Across from the Village) and day trip to Club O Beach. A fun alternative, but, obviously, not like staying at Club O.
Another year we stayed at the Hilton in Ft. Lauderdale and day tripped to Haulover. It was a good trip, but again, nothing like Club O.

But is day tripping to Haulover as good as day tripping to Orient Beach? Because without Club O I'm not sure St. Martin is worth the cost difference. Maybe staying in apartments is cheaper, but the naturist hotels near the Village are very expensive. We were at Orient Beach on the 1-year anniversary of Irma during a cruise and it didn't seem any better than Haulover (of course this was September vs. Haulover in February). Getting drinks at the Perch is better than having to bring your own, but the food trucks at Haulover had a wider variety of food than the Perch. We went on a nude cruise this year but are trying to come up with ideas for next year and Orient and Haulover are both on the table as well as resorts in Arizona and Mexico. Other than the cruises (and next year's is a little long for us) we aren't really drawn to any of these options like we were to Club O.

We've been to Haulover, we've been to both Desires, we've been to Hedo and we've stayed at Club O and we've been to SXM 15 times in the last 20 years. We loved and miss Club O, but for us SXM is so much more. We love the option to hit many beaches, we love all the different restaurants, we love the night life and the people of the island and we love to be NAKED. Since Irma we always stay in Maho, mostly split time between Cupecoy and Orient and we love every second of our time there and miss it dearly the minute we leave. As stated above we've been to many "naked" places, but have never had any of those bring us back again and again like SXM! No, it's not the same, but it's still a magical island.

Good Morning, Glad to see the website up again. Do you speak from personal experience? Have you rented a private condo and if so where? I have been following this site for years and have read reviews post Irma, However I have lost the ability to see previous posts so I am kind of in the dark and I am thinking of a trip to St. Martin.
