Beach comfort

Now that the pandemic travel restrictions are largely over, cruise ships have returned to St Martin. Orient Beach is obviously a popular cruise ship shore excursion. What beach bar and beach area is best for trying to avoid cruise ship crowds and obnoxious cruise ship passengers? My wife is sensitive to reactions to swimwear choices, and can be more relaxed with less people. Is a trip to Green Key recommended? Is Grand Case Beach better for less crowds? Are thong bikinis worn by a small minority of women on Orient Beach or are thong bikinis very popular?

Below I have posted a link to the cruise ship schedule for this year. There are plenty of dates when they won't be in port. Pick those days if you are worried about the boat people. They never bothered me. They come to Club O Beach to see what they can see, so I let them see everything and send them back to the boat with good memories.

As you will be picking a time when no cruise ships will be in port, the rest of your questions relating to that topic are moot, so I won't answer them.

Green Cay is deserted; there is nothing there except a beach on the near (calm) side. The far side is wind swept and barren.

We stay on Club O Beach during the day. I don't have to worry with a thong, so I just go naked. As far as thong bikinis on the non nude portion of Orient Beach, or one of the beach bars, I wear a micro mini string bottom that almost covers everything of importance in the front. Covers nothing in the rear. No top is required, so I don't wear one. Or I might wear a short pareo that always seems to be blowing up and showing what is underneath (bare me). Again, no top is required so I go topless.

There is a long thread on the topic of swimwear in this section. I think the title is something original like "Swim Wear." I don't think there are any pictures of me wearing a micro mini string, as a pareo was my coverup choice on the trip when the pictures were taken, but there are several of me wearing a pareo–the world's shortest pareo. Also, there are several of me wearing nothing, which is my swimwear of choice. Enjoy.

If you have further questions, just ask them. I know everything, so it will be easy for me to help you out. The guys, probably not so much. They are too busy scheming to get me to post naked pictures showing more and more of my femininity. They are basically a bad lot, as you will see in reading the swimsuit thread.

Here is the cruise ship schedule for 2023. Big blocks of time when they won't be there. Some of the boats are huge and disgorge enormous numbers of passengers.

I have been following the thread you mention about 'Swimwear' on Orient Beach. Christa, you are a lovely free-spirit. My wife is definitely less uninhibited.
We made our reservations before I knew about the cruise ship web site, and there is only 1 day without a cruise ship during our stay.
The last time we were in Orient Bay in 2007, my wife walked the beach topless in a very small bikini bottom, but only north of Coco's. Then, toplessness seemed to be more prevalent. There was a comment on one St Martin travel site that with the rise of social media, toplessness in St Martin has decreased, and we have seen that even in Europe. Alternatively, the thong bikini has become more mainstream.
We are now a reasonably fit couple in our mid-60's (skiing, hiking, biking), but not as good as we once were (sounds like a song). My wife would be much more willing to wear a thong if 30% or more of the other women on the beach wore very cheeky or thong bikinis as well. If there is 10% or less women wearing thong bikinis, she will not be the trailblazer. She does not like seeing men's equipment exposed, so spending much time in the nude area is not her thing. I personally think a thong bikini really highlights a women's body shape wonderfully, especially the high cut leg style.
During our last visit to Orient Beach, the cruise ship crowds tended to be much more conservative, which would tilt the prevalence toward the more covered. I am thinking of sunning at Coco's and further north on the beach, but would like to have other options closer to the condo we are renting. Let us know what is the overall ambiance of Orient Beach, even with the cruise ships in, which will be conducive to a more free atmosphere, in addition to the nude section.
Thanks
I could be wrong, but I don't think the boat people make it all the way down to Coco's. Last I heard, she had closed the nude section of her beach.

As to the overall ambiance of the prude section of Orient Beach, I really don't know as we just don't go there to sun, only to the shops and the beach bars. But again, I think the boat people mostly go to Club O to gawk. The farther from the taxi stand to the north, the fewer the boat people.

But wherever I am on the beach, the boat people just don't bother me. Makes no difference how conservative they are, I wear what I want when I am on the prude part of the beach, and there isn't much of it. See below. And it is semi transparent when dry and totally transparent when wet.

To follow up on this, a short trip report from late April into early May. Some Trip Advisor reports are very accurate, the ambiance of Orient Bay Beach has changed. Not as much free spirited. On the clothing side, more conservative bathing suits, very few thong bikinis, only 2 to 10 women topless any given time. Le String was easier for my wife to be topless. A large cruise ship was in port one day, and the hordes were doing videos and photos all along the beach. Made it uncomfortable to try to be a bit more free spirited. Spent some time a few days in the nude section. Was nice for the freedom, wore thong but never went completely nude. The nude section chairs could be spread out more. Was difficult getting to the water from the 2nd row, and don't need to be that up close to others. The seaweed cleanup was very efficient, a bunch at 7 AM, cleaned up by 10 AM, but some still in the water. Overall a nice time, but nicer without the larger cruise ship crowds.
Thanks for the report.

Makes no difference to me if there are now more conservative swim suits on the prude side. I am going to wear my tiny transparent string and be bare breasted where ever I go on the prude side. I've never had a problem going to any of the beach bars or establishments on the beach without a top, but I can see the day coming when they won't let me in without some sort of covering over my breasts. Probably will make me wear a non transparent and more conservative string as well.

I said this years ago, but if we women don't exercise our right to be bare breasted on the prude side, we will lose that right, just as we lost the right to be naked on all of the beach years ago.

When Dr. J is on the beach–usually during May–he has fun trying to involve the boat people in his games and trying to get them naked. He and his group enjoys large groups of boat people, as do I but for a different reason.

The way I see it, if they have come to Club O Beach to see something, I am going to give them something to see. I'll make sure their trip to Club O Beach is worthwhile and that they will have a lot to talk about when they get back home. But then that is just free spirited me. They probably talk about me during happy hour when they get back to the boat, at least I hope they do.

I agree that the chairs are too close together. Not so much for getting to the water from the second row, as we always pick the first row (see the above paragraph), but just too close to our neighbors on the sides.

We’ve been on both sides of that discussion. We have been at dinner on a cruise after a stop in St. Martin where the discussion turned to the “naked beach”, and we have been at dinner at Papagayo's where the discussion turned to the “lookey loos”. Unfortunately by 2018 when we finally cruised to St. Martin after becoming nudists (and weren’t on a nude cruise), the tradition of sitting at a large table with others had pretty much disappeared. We would have loved to be at a table making fun of the nudists and let them know the nudists were doing exactly the same thing to the cruisers and then let them know how we knew.
Christa, you are correct. More ladies need to exercise their freedom to go topless, or that freedom will be lost. La Playa requires cover ups for ladies in the beach bar.
Haven't been to La Playa in years, but I seem to remember we could go topless in the old days.

This is just one more example of our lost freedoms. If we don't use them, we lose them.

I haven't been able to access the board in several days. Anyone else have this problem?

Paragraphs Are A Reader's Best Friend.
Me too. Glad to see it back.
In celebration of having the board back, I guess I ought to post a picture.

bc9913 you need to check your emails. The Dog has long since responded, but you have not.

I was hoping when board came back up, it would filled with pictures of you and Kelly.
I'm going to post one as soon as I work up my nerve. It's hard for a modest girl to post pictures of herself and show you guys what you want to see. I do have my reputation to consider, doncha know?

So, you wouldn't look at something only my husband should see?
