Swimsuits
We are interested in visiting OB again. visited the island before Irma and found risque swimsuits were tolerated at the textile side of the beach for both men and women. Is this still the case? are we gonna get in trouble if we are in some risque suits at the textile side or we'd better stay at the C/O side? Thanks!

Why is it that you guys are always agitating to get me to post pictures of me with no clothes on? I get the feeling that you think I am easily duped. As you convinced me in 2018 to provide sneak pics of the wind blowing my pareo up, my feelings are probably correct. My husband agrees, saying, "They don't care what you write, they just want to see naked pictures."
You are all a bad lot I've had to deal with here, and on the predecessor board, for 17 years.* Even though you have been bad, hopefully, we will all get another 17 years out of it.

* We took our first trip to St. Martin in 2004, and that is when I discovered this board. It was mostly vulgar stuff posted back then. A few years later it was cleaned up, and was an interesting place with more than its share of characters participating. Sadly, most of them have moved on.

And you two are the worst of the lot. At least now you aren't trying to trick me into anything; you just come out and tell me what you want.
My most risqué swim suit is a white string Wicked Weasel bottom that is sorta transparent when dry, and totally transparent when wet. My husband got it for me for our walks on the non nude section of Orient. May have had a top at one time. If it did, I never wore it.
I also have white and yellow mesh string bottoms that don't leave anything to the imagination. Would wear them on the walks as well. I didn't even get tops for them when I ordered them. From the vantage point of a Gendarme at 30' to 40' away, it appears that I am wearing a bottom that covers what it should. But at 10' or 15' it becomes obvious that the fine mesh triangle is see through.
Although I don't have any pics of me wearing any of these strings, other vacationers to Orient Beach do have some pics. Probably on the web somewhere. But I'm not worried about being recognized as on our walks I always wore broad brimmed hats and large sunglasses.
So, as to the risqué swim wear, you will just have to use your imagination. As to the Empress and her new bathing suit, we shall see. I like it better when you tell me what you want and don't try and trick me such as that "sneak peak" business 3 years ago. Of course I fell for that, and all of you got to see what you wanted.

I have not been to SXM since the hurricane and am thinking of going back, Is there enough there to make it worthwhile? What about the visitors, do they have to have proof of shots, etc? I used to stay in the Alamanda but it does not appear to be open. Which hotels do you recommend?. Is the Perch still going strong?

Thank you for the compliment.
The Alamanda appears to be up and running. When we were there in 2018, it appeared to be almost fully rehabbed. See the link below.
And yes, the Perch Lite is going strong.
Go and have a good time; we did.

I don't believe Alamanda is open. When we visited in Sept 2018 and again in June 2019, the resort was not open. I just went onto tripadvisor and there was a review done in January 2020 where they address the resort's current state as of then. Here is an excerpt from that review. "It has been very difficult to get exact info on Alamanda in 2020, our beloved hotel. Different writers post info which is inconsistent or vague. We went the Orient and stayed nearby and planned to see for ourselves what happened at Alamanda post hurricane. It is shuttered and barricaded off. There is plywood over most of the first floor windows. The pool is not damaged but it is drained. The plexiglass fence around the pool no longer exists. The lobby area was destroyed. The second floor rooms seem to be less damaged but still in need of a serious makeover. Vegetation is entirely overgrown. A wrecked car sits in the parking lot having been there for quite a while. There is zero evidence of human activity anywhere. The front door is covered over and the sign above is gone. The roof is significantly damaged in many, many places. The surrounding village is almost entirely restored and there is little evidence there ever was a hurricane. The main street of town is restored and most of the shops and stores have reopened.
In 2018 we stayed in a beachfront condo on the Dutch side in Pelican. In June 2019, based on suggestion from Christa, we rented a condo in Orient Village so we were able to spend a glorious week with Cedrick and the gang at Club O beach and enjoy the shops and restaurants right in the village. In 2019, the Alamanda looked like it was abandoned to me.
Once this pandemic and the associated travel problems get ironed out, we will look into going back. Hopefully Club O will be rebuilt (albeit not the same) and again based on reviews and comments from Christa and others, we can try it for ourselves.

Well, that isn't good news. When we were there in June, 2018, the resort had ongoing construction and looked as if it were almost ready to reopen. We saw nothing like that contained in the Jan. 2020 report above. Too bad as it was a nice resort. We stayed there on our first visit to the Island in 2004. After our first stay at Club O, we never looked back.
