Re: Club Orient

Headed back to Club O beach after a 2 year absence. Hopefully we will reconnect with old friends and make some new ones.

My husband and I always wear a hat and sunglasses, both when walking the beach and while we are at our chairs. Good insurance for bad motives.

We do as well but there are those times when we swim or snorkel and thats when I caught the guy snapping pics of my wife. I did persuade him to delete the photos and apologize to my wife.
The whole premise should be common sense, but unfortunately its not to common. Everyone has a pic of their sandy feet and a Carib in an orange and white lounger, but sneaky stranger pics should never happen.

Life's a beach!
It all boils down to decency and courtesy.

Many years ago if someone who worked in an industry where naturism was not understood and was at the Club O section of Orient Beach he or she didn't have too much concern. I base this on the fact that someone would have had to get the film developed at an adult store or discrete photo shop. Then there was no real way for those pictures to be readily visible other than the possible submission to certain publications. Fast forward a few years and now that same person can have his or her photo pasted from a camera phone to the entire world in a nanosecond.

Not only are there people in sensitive work positions but there may be people who have friends +/or family that may not be in favor of their activity and maybe they just don't want others to know. In my last visit I met a couple who have grown adult children that don't know of their attendance at the Club O beach. They tell their kids a different reason for their trips to SXM. I would bet they would not grant these photos to be taken much less distributed on some website worldwide.

Somewhere on a different SXM travel site, I remember someone posting that French law does not allow photographing another without that person's permission. Unlike US law that states people have no expectation of privacy in a public place or a place open to the public, French law may state otherwise.

I am not a lawyer nor did I stay in a Motel 6 last night. so I don't know what the actual law in France is but common courtesy and decency should prevail! If someone asks a person to stop taking photos they should stop. I am not condoning destroying someone's property however I also don't want my "Irish" little guy all over the net and I'm sure my wife wouldn't her nekkid photo all over the world.

If it is a consensual matter then no problem. I know on my next trip I will take a few snaps of my wife but she consents and we don't post our photos. Just my .02
Just found this drone video from January 2019 of Club Orient on youtube.

Great drone video that accurately shows condition of the remains of ClubO.

We were just there for a cruise day last month. Beach is great. Lots of nice umbrellas and chairs. Same deal as before — find chairs you want and Cedric or his folks will come by and collect $20. Perch light is decent but I miss Willi. Chairs were still being set up at 9:30, a bit later than I remember. Most chairs were full by early afternoon the day we were there.

ClubO is gone. Even buildings that look relatively intact do not appear salvageable to me. But for a cruise day there is little difference than before. Talked to several couples staying on island. They were saddened by ClubO’s destruction and bankruptcy but said the French side restaurants and lodging were opening and adequate for a vacation.

Gawkers (cruisers on parade) walking down the beach seem fewer than before. I think tours do not drop them off as before. Downside is the tour buses now make a slow pass through the parking area of Perch
