Day trips from cruise port

With Club O currently closed we decided that our next trip will be a day trip while on a cruise rather than flying to SXM and looking for alternate hotels near Orient Beach. How busy is cab traffic to/from Orient Beach on cruise days in this post-Irma world? We would ask our driver to come pick us up at a designated time for a return trip to the port, but if they didn't show up, is there any kind of regular traffic to the beach that we could find alternate rides from?

On our Cruise Critic roll call, someone mentioned that "Orient Beach is not an option", which tells me that textiles are actively avoiding the area, which could limit the taxi traffic. If needed, could we walk down to Orient Village and find a driver there?

I really want to see how Club O is doing in September (not to mention the entire beach), but if the ride situation is too risky we could try the Captain Paul Nude Trip around the island. Last time we did that, we at least went into Orient Bay so we could see the destruction from a distance. Mrs. JT wasn't a big fan of the small boat in the big surf around Oyster Bay at the beginning and end of the tour, so this isn't a great option, either.

Was at Club O last month, always 2 or 3 taxis waiting to take people back to the ships on cruise days

Great to hear!
When we were there in early January the taxi master at the cruise port dispatch station replied "Orient Beach is not recommended" when I asked him for a cab to Orient Beach. I had to insist on a cab to Orient which then turned out not to be a problem. Will return in another 2 weeks.
